Random questions with Basti
On Wednesday, December 2rd, 2020 the Hopsol media team caught up with Sebastian Schubert of SKW at his respective school DHPS, to ask him a few random questions so we get to know more about him beyond his amazing skills on the field.
Below is what he had to say:
What is your full name?
– My name is Sebastian Franz “Basti” Schubert.
When and where were you born?
– I was born Windhoek on the 08th March 2005.
How many languages do you speak?
– I speak three languages: German, Afrikaans and English.
What is your dream job?
– Farming, however, if soccer takes off, then I will stick to that.
What does your perfect Sunday look like?
– I hardly do anything on Sundays, so I wake up early, have breakfast and watch tv .
What is your least favourite food?
– Bratwurst.
What is your favourite subject, and why?
– German, because I find it much easier compared to all the other subjects.
What is your favourite store, and where do you buy your clothes?
– Sportscenes.
Holidays are underway, where will you be going for the holidays?
– I will be going to the farm, and maybe go to Swakopmund in December for the Christmas cup.

– Ronaldo
Who is your footballing hero, and why?
– Ronaldo, because he is hard working and if wants something he works hard until he gets it.
When did you start playing soccer?
– I started playing soccer in grade one.
Why do you play soccer?
– When I was younger, I wanted to do something, but now soccer makes me happy. If for example fail a test in school, I go for soccer training and I feel way better.
Do you participate in other sport codes?
– Athletics (high jump, 400m and 800) and volleyball.
How do you balance school and soccer?
– It is a big problem because I only think about soccer, I play a lot of soccer and I play for a lot of teams. So my school work is not its best but I have to change that next year.
Do you have a pre-match routine?
– I say a small prayer.
Where do you see yourself in 10 years to come?
– I would be in SA studying at Stellenbosch.
When you are much older, since you play all these other sport code, which one will you stick with?
– Soccer.
What do your parents think about you playing soccer?
– My mom was very supportive before she passed on (last year), my step mom also supports me a lot and thinks I can go far with soccer. My father on the other hand not so much, because he wants to take over the farm.
Do you have any siblings, and if so, do they also play soccer or any other sport codes?
– I have four siblings: one is Ole my younger brother who also plays for SKW U15, and then Benson who also plays for SKW U13 and then two younger siblings who don’t do anything as yet.
If you are to be given a chance to play for any established team in the world, which one would you choose, and why?
– Dortmund, because all the youngsters that started there, are some of the best players in the world.
Do you think soccer is progressive in Namibia?
– If you are good then you might, but in Namibia no.
What advice can you give your fellow soccer players?
– You need to work hard obviously, and even if you win something like an individual trophy, you must not get a big head, just stay the way you are, play your soccer and don’t focus on anybody else.
