Girl Power in the MTC HopSol Youth Soccer League

The MTC HopSol Youth Soccer League took the first strides to fulfil a promise to also include women’s football on their programme. The MTC HopSol Youth Soccer League as the most popular and successful youth soccer league ever in the land of the Brave at their launch, some five years ago stated that they intended to have a development programme targeted only for girls.
The intention is to provide girls a platform to fall in love with the most popular sport on the planet, namely soccer. In line with that ambition is to have more and more girls to play the game and for that reason the HopSol league held a Girls Grassroots Tournament over the past weekend. The tournament was held in collaboration with the Namibia Football Association at the NFA Technical Centre in Katutura.

The tournament consisted of eight under 10 teams and nine under 13 teams to make out the total of 180 young girls on the day.

The ACFA Sunflower Girls scooped first place in the Under 10 category be beating MH Greeff on penalties after a two all draw.

In the Under 13 final the girls from V Power Angels beat MH Greeff convincingly with 4 goals to one.

The Regional Grassroots Coordinator Jo-Ann Krohne was pleased with proceedings on the day. “ We want to thank the MTC HopSol Youth Soccer League for making this memorable day possible for the girl child. Most of the programmes are centred around the boys and with this platform the girls could show their skills, enjoy themselves in a save and organised environment. Some of them even have better skills then some of the boys in their respective age groups” said Jo-Ann Krohne.

The event was termed as a success with thanks expressed to all involved on the day.
